Surah 1 · Makki · 7 verses
Al-Fatihah
The Opening
Seek Allah's guidance in every aspect of life, affirming His sole Lordship, mercy, and mastery of the Day of Judgment, and committing to worship Him alone on the straight path.
Al-Fatihah is a foundational prayer for divine guidance, opening with praise for Allah's Lordship, mercy, and mastery of the Day of Judgment, and concluding with a plea to be led to the straight path.
As one of the earliest complete revelations, Al-Fatihah was revealed in Mecca to teach believers how to approach the Qur'an as a prayer for divine guidance.
Praise and glorification of Allah. Divine mercy and compassion. Accountability and the Day of Judgment. Exclusive worship and reliance. Seeking the straight path. The covenant with God.
The Surah after this one is Al-Baqarah. This Surah is found in Juz 1.
The Surah opens with praise and glorification of Allah, acknowledging His supreme attributes and sovereignty. It then transitions into a direct plea for guidance to the straight path, distinguishing it from paths of deviation.
