Terms of Service
Last updated: 30 June 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Rooted Quran (“Rooted Quran”, “we”, “us”), including our website and mobile applications (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data.
1. Who can use Rooted Quran
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher) to use the Service. By using it, you confirm you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate. If you’re using the Service on behalf of someone else, you confirm you’re authorised to accept these Terms for them.
2. What Rooted Quran is (and isn't)
Rooted Quran is a guided companion to help you understand the meaning, themes, and lessons of the Qur’an. Our annotations draw on respected works of the tradition (such as Tafsir Ibn Kathir, abridged, and Maarif-ul-Quran) and scholarly thematic overviews, presented in an accessible format.
It is an educational aid, not a substitute for the Muṣḥaf, for studying Tafsir in full, or for guidance from qualified scholars. Nothing in the Service constitutes a religious ruling (fatwa) or definitive interpretation. You are responsible for verifying matters of religious practice with appropriate scholarship.
3. Your account
You’re responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account. Don’t share your account or let others use it. Tell us promptly at myrootedquran@gmail.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission. You can update your details, or permanently delete your account, from Settings.
4. Membership, billing & payments
Some features require a paid membership. Payments are processed securely by Stripe; by subscribing you also agree to Stripe’s terms. The current price and billing interval for each plan are shown at checkout.
- Recurring plans. Monthly and annual memberships renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
- One-time / lifetime plans. Where offered, a lifetime membership is a single one-time payment, not a subscription.
- Cancelling. You can cancel a recurring plan at any time from Settings. Your membership stays active until the end of the current paid period, after which it won’t renew. You can resume before it ends.
- Promotions. Promo codes and launch offers may carry their own conditions and limits, and can be changed or withdrawn at any time.
- Price changes. We may change plan prices. Any change applies from your next billing period, and we’ll give reasonable notice where required.
Except where required by law or by the app store you purchased through, payments are non-refundable. Purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play are subject to that store’s refund process, and cancellations of store-based subscriptions must be managed through your store account. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.
5. Your content
Your reflections, notes, bookmarks, and reviews are yours. You keep ownership of the content you create. You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display that content solely to operate and provide the Service to you (for example, syncing your reflections across your devices).
If you submit a public review, you grant us permission to display it, including in anonymised form. You’re responsible for the content you submit and confirm you have the right to share it. You can export or delete your content as described in our Privacy Policy.
6. Acceptable use
When using the Service, you agree not to:
- Break the law or infringe anyone’s rights.
- Copy, scrape, resell, or redistribute our content (including annotations and commentary) except as expressly allowed for your own personal study.
- Reverse-engineer, interfere with, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its systems.
- Upload malware, or submit content that is unlawful, abusive, hateful, or harmful.
- Use the Service to disrespect the Qur’an or to mislead others about its meaning.
7. Intellectual property
The Service — including its design, software, text, annotations, and other materials — is owned by Rooted Quran or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Source works are used under their respective terms and remain the property of their authors and publishers. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own study. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
8. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers (such as Supabase, Stripe, PostHog, and Netlify) and may link to third-party content. We’re not responsible for third-party services or content, and your use of them may be subject to their own terms.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We don’t guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any content is complete or free from mistakes. We work hard on accuracy, but the Service is not a substitute for qualified scholarship.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rooted Quran will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including your statutory consumer rights.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Rooted Quran harmless from claims, losses, and expenses arising out of your misuse of the Service, your content, or your breach of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.
12. Suspension & termination
You can stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users. Where appropriate and lawful, we’ll give notice. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.
13. App Store terms
If you download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, these Terms are between you and Rooted Quran only, not with Apple or Google. The relevant store is not responsible for the app or its content, and provides no warranty for it. You agree to comply with the applicable store’s terms of service. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you with respect to the iOS app.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you. By continuing to use the Service after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the courts of England and Wales — without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have in your country of residence.
